Chapter 10. Life’s Unexpected Blessings and Setbacks

Beautiful pink rose

June went into work and was surprised to see Calvin back in the office.
“Well, I didn’t expect to see you, Calvin.”

Calvin was looking sharper than usual with cleaner attire and hair. Calvin replied, “I would like to take you back on my offer of doing a political humor section. This crazy world gives me lots of material to work from.”

“Glad to hear it. I thought our liberal magazine scared you away forever.” June smirked.

“No, it didn’t but almost.”

They both chuckled.

Susan walked in the two of them laughing. “Oh, you again, Calvin. You are just jealous of us liberals.”

“Nice to see you too, Susan,” retorted Calvin.

Susan promptly went back into her desk, shaking her hand.

“You two used be an amazing couple, huh?” June said.

Calvin smiled, “I guess so. Happy it’s over.”

“I could rehire you but just stick the political humor section. I don’t remind you why otherwise.”

“You got it,” smiled Calvin.

Meanwhile, after work, June called Jimmy on the way from work.

“Hey honey, how it going?”

“Good.”

“Can you meet me at Victor Park now?” Asked Jimmy.

“Why?”

“I have a surprise for you.”

“What?” June said.

“Just get over here, and you will see,” replied Jimmy.

Victor Park was a dog park just outside the city, quaint and cute and sometimes crowded but typically on the weekends but not on Thursdays.

After June arrived, she saw Jimmy comfortably sitting on a park bench next to a black Labrador she met through their mutual friend Tim.

June confidently walked forward but intently curious why she was brought here.
“Hey Jimmy, you are looking sharp. Why are you all dressed up? What’s the occasion?”

“Oh, we had an important work meeting today. Say hi to Harley.” June petted Harley, the black Labrador.

“I am just looking after Harley for Tim when he takes care of somethings.”
“Oh,” said June, thinking not much of it just happy to be with Jimmy on this cool and crisp day. “So why did you bring me here?”

Jimmy opened up Harley’s tight clenched jaw and, on his tongue, laid a shiny object.

June’s mouth dropped and then she tried to speak but Jimmy interrupted her, “Would you take me to be your…”

Then June interrupted Jimmy, “I know what you are going to ask! Of course!”

They threw their arms around each other and Jimmy swept June off her feet in front of some park passersby. “I love you June, and I knew I was hesitant, but I would love to go to Argentina with you! I could never love a woman as much as I have loved you.” Exclaimed Jimmy.

But Jimmy had a solemn look come across his face, “There is something you should know. I am physically unable to have kids. I hope that doesn’t change how you feel about me.”

June’s face dropped again. “You said what?”

Let me know what you think and stay tuned for Chapter 12. 🙂

  1. JUMMY PROPOSED AAAAHHHH!!! I’m glad she said yes! And I mean… adoption is a thing if he can’t have kids. 😊 Also super glad Harley didn’t swallow the ring. 😅

Oh my. Ewww. Slobbery ring! 🤣🤣🤣 When you put it like that, I would have made him wash the ring before it touched my finger. 😂
