Poetry and Musings

Thank you Discovering Your Happiness (DYH) for nominating me for the Unique Blogger Award. This nomination was a while back but now I have the time to give these “unique” questions the time they deserve. I have been a journey to better emotional health, esp. when it comes to anxiety. So while I haven’t been blogging I have been tending to losing weight, meditation, etc. And DYH talks a lot about emotional well-being. I love her blog and you should check it out.

Her questions:

What are your 2018 plans?

Great question. I have many. But overall, I hope to meditate more through classes and using this great app called Insight Timer which allows you to do guided meditations (you can pick the time amount), talks on certain topics like healing and self-forgiveness, and music meditations. Mediation keeps me centered and relaxed. I also hope to attend this writing conference here in Houston, Texas called: Writefest. It’s a week event where there are workshops for fiction, poetry, etc. and opportunities to meet other writers and possibly get published in a literary magazine. I’ll probably do a lot of poetry workshops. You know me. I’ll be learning more about bringing home the MESSAGE in the stanza. Lol!😉 I also plan on losing 20 pounds this year. Wish me luck!

What are your three ways to reduce stress?

Meditation, prayer and listening to music. I find solace in the Psalms and Ephesians. Such honest and heartfelt poetic dialogues to God found in those chapters for me. David’s anger, sadness and faith. Paul’s desire to please God. And when it comes to music put on some U2 or Chris Tomlin and I feel God’s presence and I feel less stressed as well.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

… Can I get back to you in 5 years?

lol. No seriously, this is an important question. I just can’t believe how fast time goes but 5 years seems like a while from now. And I am trying to spend more time in the present moment. You know? 😀❤️ But I hope to be a missionary married with a couple of kids. I would love to preach and share my poetry to a congregation of people on the mission field. This is my heart’s desire. And oh… a handsome man who loves Lord, missions and wants children too. 😉

My questions:

What is your main form of reflection: prayer, mediation, or an artistic pursuit and why? Or do you see all these as intertwined?

(I am going to steal DYI’s question): Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

If you paint or had a desire to paint what kind of things would you paint and where would you paint if you could paint anywhere?

I look forward to your responses guys. God bless! ❤️❤️

Sincerely,

Carly 💫

A cool little black and white creature

In the Arctic showing me love

I’ll let this furry thing be my teacher

You think you are always under attack

Why don’t you take another Tic Tac?

It’s low on the calorie

Because there are none

And it’s low in the salary

I believe it cost $1.21

The chemical goodness is what you need

The tartaric acid will quench your greed

Just let go; it’s time

While the day is in its prime

Swallow your pride

And let the orange capsule dissolve inside

The bridegroom mourns tonight
But God knows who wins this fight
There is an evil dark red sky above
That is more crimson than His blood

Oh, death what is your sting?
To those who believe
Beloved, sing

Death has overcome
On Calvary’s cross
The devil has lost

Jesus, I how you ache
For the prize at stake
But you take the agony
For every soul that breaks

Lord, thank you for your sacrifice
We therefore glorify our bodies
Because we were bought with a price

Your family are the branches
And your friends are the leaves
Though your heart griefs
Take your chances
With Love

God is the sun
But people are the rays
We are all one
We are all ablaze
Even in the darkness

The nail is on the wood
Are bodies will still fall to dust
Babies are still dying in motherhood
But the swords gather for the just
The Phoenix is coming

Some friends stick
Like a stamp to envelope
Even when the time is sick
There is hope
They are like blood bonds

But the crab will unbury himself again
He has traveled often
He can’t wait for us to see the light and violin
And get out of our coffin
And Love and see others the way Christ has

Hope is imbedded

It’s impregnated

In possibility

But also by dissolving

Our pretensive limited beliefs

Despair brings us to our knees
Rushing with desperation
To make our short window bus rides
And this bus ride isn’t to find our friends again
But the road of forgiveness to our hearts

You shouldn’t take free handouts
You shouldn’t take bribes
And you shouldn’t lie to yourself
Or one another

Just when you step on that bus
Take a deep breath
And never look back
You have a compass and water
But don’t forget your pillow every now and then

This road is a weary one…

You got a deep cut
The doc said
Just put a band aid on it
And go on your way

You had a stressful week
The yogi said
Take one deep breath
And move forward

You need to lose weight
The nutritionist said
Eat once a day
And walk ahead

Our speed is excessive
It’s for advancement
But are we moving forward?
Or just moving in man’s ways?

You can have peace
God said
He will restore your soul
And rest in green pastures

You can have joy
God said
By the Holy Spirit
And His word will always stand

You can have patience
So many things distract
From the very source of life
Abba, our Provider

Discovering Your Happiness nominated me for the Christmas Tag! Yay, thank you so much, Discovering Your Happiness! 🙂 I am honored that you have thought about me this holiday season. 🙂

  • Add the picture in your blog
  • Copy these rules into your post
  • Add a link to this orginal post (littlediyprojects.wordpress.com/thechristmastag)
  • Answer the 10 questions (you can add extra Christmas-related questions if you want)
  • Tag at least 3 other bloggers with links to their blogs
  • Have fun!

The Questions:

  1. What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
  2. What’s your favourite Christmas memory?
  3. Are there special traditions your family has for Christmas?
  4. What’s your Christmas wish? (Can be personal or general)
  5. What’s your favourite Christmas dish?
  6. What’s your favourite Christmas decoration?
  7. What’s your favourite Christmas song?
  8. Where do you usually celebrate Christmas?
  9. What does the ‘Christmas Spirit’ mean to you?
  10. Who out of anybody in the world would you want to spend your Christmas with?

  1. There are many things I enjoy about the holiday season. I enjoy the fact that Christmas represents Jesus’s birth, as well as the magical elements of the season with Santa Claus and snow man. I know God isn’t our Santa Claus in the sense that He will give us everything we want. But He is like Santa Claus in the sense that He wants to stir up and surprise our hearts with wonder like a child. Jesus doesn’t give us physical gifts. Something far better. Peace, love, and joy this December. So I enjoy the combination of the real history of Christmas mixed with the fun and child-like interpretations of it.
  2.  I have many. The first ones that come to mind is my family making a big fuss that Christmas was always an elaborate celebration. There is not just referring to decorations or presents. But elaborate with the extra frills that came with Christmas. One example is, my sister gave me an idea to write a letter to my elf and leave by the milk and cookies. And ask the elf about themselves and what was involved in the wrapping of my gifts. My sister read me the letter the next morning and told me that the elf’s name was Charlie and thought that was so cool his name was my favorite name at the time. And it helped me to continue believe in the magic of Christmas. And few years later I acknowledged who was the real elf working behind the scenes to come up with Charlie.
  3.  My family has a tradition that when we open gifts we open them up one at a time, instead of all once. We do this so can enjoy a family member’s reaction when they open. I am a young adult but my Mom stills buys gifts for her kids and we open them up like when we were kids. 🙂
  4. For all my family and friends (and yes, that includes my followers as well ;)) to have a happy and healthy Merry Christmas! And if it isn’t perfect, don’t beat yourself up. Just let the sleigh take you where it will go! 😉
  5. My Mom’s Christmas Eve delicious meat lasagna.
  6. The 8 or so bells that wrap around like garland that play various Christmas tunes.
  7. “Joy to the World.”
  8. My parent’s house with my two older siblings
  9. Be kind to everyone. It’s more than a nice holiday greeting and a hug. It’s what Jesus would want us to do. It’s the reason He was born in the manager in the little town of Bethlehem and died on the cross. Be love and show love. The world is hurting, even during a joyous season such as Christmas. Show people grace, mercy and patience.
  10.  As silly as it sounds, my family and friends is all I need. 🙂 But as a side note, I think Bette Midler would put on a fabulous, chic and hilarious rendition of a Christmas party. 🙂 And I would like Meryl Streep to be one of her guests. 🙂
