You got to help yourself
Someone can offer a tree limb
But you reach out with your phantom limb
You got to help yourself

You are on desert island
But your brain is a desert island
You can release the help flare
But you choose to sit and pout
You got to help yourself

You ask questions
But your life is filled with answers
But you don’t believe any one of them
You got to help yourself

People come and go out of your life
More will come and go
Telling you the same thing
You got to help yourself

It’s time to grow courage
Let go of regret, guilt and pain of your past
Because it’s all a part of your past
It’s time to grow a new arm limb
You got to help yourself

You think you have a lot to juggle
Don’t forget God’s provision can come in the form of a struggle
It isn’t always the devil made me do it
God knows the pain makes you stronger
With God’s grace you’ll get through it

Leaves move and twist
In the wind as the fall
God created darkness and light
Yes, the devil can be a factor
But God is staging the show
While you are the actor

Sometimes you sin
Allowing other forces in
But sometimes in the midst of the pain
God is teaching to bruise your knee
So you can appreciate every sprint and sprain

Every broken relationship
Brings us to examine ourselves
How can I change?
And change brings growth
And growth over time, brings contentment
And without happiness you can’t have hope

Every dying family member
Chills your bones like December
But it makes you long for God’s kingdom
Where the saints will reign forever
Your heart beats every beat with hope until Jesus will come

Hope flies and soars like a lighthearted eagle

with no obligations but to aid to love

What once never existed, springs into existence

The troubles that overwhelm our minds and confuse our hearts

will halt with the beauty of hope

Peace arises as the wind around us subsides

We are aware to the hope and love that is around us

Love is a sensitive word. It can overtly bring about a lot of emotional responses. Love has many connotations to it but one question always gets attached to it for me personally: am I worthy of it?

I am not here to seek sympathy or say everything will go according to plan. But I am here to say, “All things work together for the good of those who the love the Lord and who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28.)

This Bible verse may go good on a Hallmark card but it needs to be stamped in your soul. I like to declare Scripture out loud to myself with my name a part it. Here’s an example: “Romans says God will work all things out for those who love Him. God will work things out for Carly.”

This makes it personal and allows me to take more ownership of the Bible verse.

What Bible verse do you need to declare over yourself where you feel deficient in love? Do you feel unworthy that you don’t believe God loves you enough to take care of your finances? Try this one: “Adversity pursues sinners, but the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity.” (Proverbs 28:25).

For fun, let’s say your name is Bill. Say over yourself: “God, I have been faithful to You. Your Word says you will help me prosper in all ways, including finances. Help me. God will bless Bill financially.”

Is it guilt over a sin? You feel unworthy of forgiveness? Here is one for you: “But if we confess our sins to God, He will keep His promise and do what is right: He will forgive us our sins and purify us of our wrongdoing.” (1 John 1:9).

God will provide all our needs but maybe not the way we like or expect. It’s time we grab our shields of faith and march to what God calls us to do.

I have had my share of emotional, physical problems but I wouldn’t be who I am today without the strife. Sometimes the evil of this world got its way. Sometimes God was taking me through a refining process. But it doesn’t matter, God is stronger! Amen and Amen!

What area of your life are you looking for God to come through for you for? If you feel like sharing.  Carly (Message In Stanza)

Running To Save Novels

So is anxiety productive or counterproductive? Do the sweaty palms and increased heart rate help you move into action or just freeze your call to action?

In a nutshell, I don’t believe the answer is black and white. I can’t give a definitive yes or no.

When you an increased adrenaline rush (anxiety manifested) you will dash into a house and save a life. It’s our instrintual makeup.

Psychology is correct in the sense that anxiety can be debilitating but because of our ancient DNA it can be used to survive. Are you ever anxious when you are angry with someone in, let’s say, a restaurant but you can’t show your anxiety? I believe anger can be displayed as anxiety. So what do you do? You take 5 minutes to yourself in the restroom, take a deep breath, and accept how you are feeling. If you weren’t angry you wouldn’t be human. I am not saying, let’s be angry and anxious around everyone but I am saying be true to how you feel. That’s where you will be more successful because you are real with yourself.

Society is all about pretend you are ok and bottling up your emotions. It catches me off guard but I love it when I ask someone how they are doing and they shrug their shoulders and say, “It could be better.” We shouldn’t dump on problems on people but it’s important to speak the truth in a gentle way so we can come to terms to how we are really feeling, you know?

In a less exaggerated example, if all of a sudden, if I lose all my work on a poem I am writing on WordPress and it doesn’t save and I don’t have a backup, I’ll become anxious. But maybe next time because of the anxiety, I’ll make sure to save it or have a backup because I hated that feeling of anxiety in the past.

So anxiety can be useful to help us cope and prepare us to deal with more challenging problems later on, in my opinion. But when is anxiety counterproductive? When you worry to the point of a lack of trust in God’s sovereignty and love. It’s natural to go to the grieving process when someone dies or a healing process of emotional hurts from your past. But when anxiety turns into depression, that’s never God’s will for your life. Sometimes it’s better to ask HOW can I get through this instead of WHY did this happen. Just some food for thought today.

What are your thoughts on this piece?

The world is going through a shift

God is taking us through a sift

Now it’s not the time for fear

But submit to God in prayer

Some many things steal our attention from our first love

We can’t give the devil anymore permission

The devil service comes for you and me

But we can destroy his works with the holy dove

Joel 2 is coming to body of Christ

Because of the Jesus’s paid price

The devil service doesn’t want us to stand

As king and queens, hand in hand

Reject the lies of the evil one

That you aren’t loved, unconditionally

That you aren’t royalty unto the Most High

Because one day we will shine like the Son

God, where are you?

The world has turned dim

And your Son Jesus

We can’t see Him

We live in a politically correct world

And our view of God is passive

If we don’t change

I am afraid the pain will be massive

God is good

But He let evil take place

Like with Job

He let the devil take his own destructive pace

This is a call to change

Good will win

If we stand up

To where injustice started to begin

Autistic children are calling out

Elderly are on bed rest

The poor are holding out their cups

I think it’s a test

We get shook up

We bend and break

We are on our last leg

In this battle between real and fake
