Poetry and Musings

IMG_3107

Two of my friends, Eric and Carly are really in love. Carly wanted me to write me her a poem and I thought I would write one about how completely in love they are. 😍❤️

Here it is:

There are two love birds in town
It’s Carly who is in a beautiful Cinderella gown
While Eric is looking sharp
With his suit and tie
He’s like Cupid with a harp
Oh, they are so in love

Carly makes unique dolls
While Eric is mixing music inside his walls
They are a complete match
Made in Heaven
Carly, you should be forever grateful of your catch
Oh, you guys are perfect for each other

Love is a unique reality
It’s commitment can feel like a finality
But you know it’s so worth it
Love is a special treasure
Carly and Eric, unearth it
It’s something you’ll never regret

Here is some advice, for you two
Never forget to have patience where it’s due
Never forget to love against all odds
It will be hard at times, I can assure this
But focus on Jesus, the God above all gods
And you surely goodness and love will follow you always

sidewalk ends

I don’t get you

And you don’t get me

It’s ok

Around and around we go

Shel Silverstein knows where the sidewalk ends

And that’s where we begin

I am right-brained

You aren’t the creative type

I can’t solve complex equations

It’s ok

Around and around we go

Shel Silverstein knows where the sidewalk ends

And that’s where the math meets the inspiration

I always seem to lose my cool

But you are as a cool as cucumber

Around and around we go

Shel Silverstein knows where the sidewalk ends

And that’s where peace comes to me against all odds

The wind is like spearmint

Where the daisies grow in the pavement

Around and around we go

Shel Silverstein is genius

Every poem can  be a song

Every song can be a poem

Let’s sing together

While around and around we go

(The wind and daisies lines have elements by Shel Silverstein’s poem: Where the Sidewalk Ends)

coffee

I normally just do poetry on my blog, but I thought I would do something different today and post some mindless chatter from the brain of Carly C. Wiggins. I hope I marry someone with the last name that starts with a C. Then I can be called triple C (I am too innocent to be referring to the over-the counter medication.) I just like patterns and I think having three C’s in your name is pretty cool! 🙂

Anywho, here is a my main random ingredient of discussion today:

I love coffee shops. I just love lattes and mochas. But it’s more than that… I love the hipster alt rock music they play in the background at coffee shops (because it makes me feel more hipster). And I love being around people but being able to socialize at my leisure to people around me (if their head isn’t glued to their phone or laptop) or talking to the barista. But I also enjoy working on my poetry blog at a coffee shop or reading, because I am a total book nerd.

But there is a particular coffee shop in Houston, TX that I go to a lot. When I first went there I recalled a barista that works there who talked all about his accomplishments and looked like a total hipster with earrings, skinny jean, a tank top with a small moustache. When I first saw him, I thought he talked too much about himself and probably wouldn’t “get” me. I am a little overweight and shy and he seemed too cool for school! Boy, how I was wrong! He was nice and patient with me.

I found out he meditated like me. And I was fascinated how health-conscious he was. He told me about the Japanese oil spill (10 years ago, I believe) and how it impacted the fish in the sea because the oil spill spread over the earth over time. The fish would eat other fish who had digested the oil. This resulted in a domino effect to bring toxic chemicals to many fish. And he believes the impact is still going on today because the oil is still moving around in the ocean! It’s such a shame this could be possible. I don’t want to go on a rant, but our health could be in trouble because of this. I know I should really give up seafood but I jut can’t right now. I love salmon and catfish too much. But this awareness may result in me eating seafood a little less or eating fish who aren’t as impacted by any oil spill.

I really relished this engaging conversation with this barista at this local small coffee shop. We even talked about how we believe plants have feelings. Now that may seem like a little bit of a reach or kooky to you but we had a good time chatting it up! 🙂

Thanks for reading this mindless chatter and stayed tuned for more…

img_2718This doesn’t seem right
This blessed cup of life
Wanting more
More for me and me alone
Even with all the goodness shown

I have been hurt
What’s new?
Steward my own demise
Filled with aching lies
For me and me alone

I know God is good
He loves me like He should
But loving Him
Would show vulnerability
And I would have to show more availability

I just want to be by myself
Don’t you know?
I know I can be trusted
Because my hand hasn’t busted
But who knows when a Joker will show up

The Joker, I know him
When the party is over and lights go dim
I see him in my hand
I created this mess
I wish I had more time to prove that I am honest

The JOKER is alive
Am I the Joker?
Or does he live below the Earth?

Memories

Life is a moment to be captured

An event frozen in time

All memories were once real-time events

But when we think about them they become alive again

Why can’t we go back to that time in person once more?

I guess we have to hold on to all experiences as they happen

Because at one time they will become memories too

You were in my life for a season

When I look back at your smile and charisma in my mind

It feels like a perfect dream

I look at my life now, you are gone

All I have are the welcoming memories

I remember that majestic scene in my mind like it was yesterday

I could smell the flowers

And see the mountaintops

But oh, it’s only a sweet memory

I was nominated for this award by a thought-provoking blogger, Steve Still Standing. Yes, he is still standing really strong! (His username always reminds me of Elton John’s song Still Standing lol. And I love Elton John, so that’s good thing, Steve. 🙂 ) Thank you for this nomination. I want to say it surprised me because I am new to this whole WordPress thing, but I feel greatly honored, Steve. 🙂 I have written poetry for a long time but I never thought it would publicly out there like this!

So, who created this award?

This award was created by Miss Maggie over at Dreaming of Guatemala. This is a direct quote from her blog about it:

“This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”

Here are The Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Include the reason behind the award.
  • Include the banner in your post.
  • Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
  • Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
  • Nominate at least 5 awesome bloggers.
  • Give your nominees 10 new questions to answer.
  • Let your nominees know that they’ve been nominated!

Here are the questions:

Who do you look up to?

I look up to my best friend, Paul. We have been friends since 2004. So it’s been quite a while! He is one of the most loyal and honest people I know. He knows my deep dark secrets and I know his and we still accept each other. But we tease about judging each other for our mistakes. We are both strong Christians but we have a joke with each other where we will tell one another our mistakes. Then after we do, we say, “And God pulls the floor board on you!” I believe God is a very gracious and saving God but we know how to tease each other as well! 🙂

What do you want to accomplish in the future?

Well, as a fellow WordPress poet, I hope to get my name out there and eventually, publish my poetry and short non-fiction. My non-fiction is less than 20,000 words but I believe it’s powerful.

My faith is very important to me, so I also aspire to be a missionary in the future where God wants to send me. I have a heart for the broken and less privileged.

If you have 1 million dollars, what will you do with it?

That’s a million dollar question! Let me think on this one… I would definitely put some in savings, give to charity, travel a lot more, buy expensive guitars with special amps and pedals, and eat out a lot more (even, though, I already do! 🙂 )

Are you a traveler who looks for budget or luxury on your holidays?

I don’t care about fancy hotels rooms but I enjoy the perks that come along with nice hotels like massages, pedicures, etc. So the answer is both, in a nutshell. 🙂

What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

More awareness and acceptance of people that have learning disabilities such as autism, bi polar, dyslexia, etc. And also possible cures for these things. I believe our environment and what we put in our bodies plays a major role in how our bodies develop. So also having no the toxins and pollutions in the air (wait, is that two things to change about the world? 🙂 )

If you could offer a new-born child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

“Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. It’s ok to fail miserably in this life because God turns everything around for your good!” 🙂

What are you most grateful for?

My loving and supportive parents and siblings. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them! They have been such troopers dealing with me sometimes!  When I shoot the breeze with them, it hasn’t always been a walk in the park! haha!

What is your happiest childhood memory?  What makes it so special?

This might seem like an unexpected response but the first thing that pops in my mind was when a swing broke on me in preschool. It literally broke from the hinges. I wasn’t overweight or anything lol. I was pretty upset but a teacher I admired came up to with a cold cola and put it on my head where I bruised. Why this memory was so special to me was because I really bonded with the teacher after that and we had a good laugh.

If today was the end of the world, what would you do?

Pray like holy hell! lol. Just kidding.

I would probably freak out if I knew that it was the last day on Earth. And I would just tell everyone I know constantly that I love them. But if I kept my cool, I would ride in a fast car, eat more chocolate and check my Facebook one last time to confirm I made a difference in this world! lol!

No, seriously, I probably wouldn’t go online. I would spend quality time with friends and family.

If you knew you were going to die one year from today, what would you do and how would you want to be remembered?

All these gut-wrenching questions…

I would skydive and spend time with family and friends. And do more charity work and think less about myself.

  3. What makes you the happiest, family, friends, religion, or being inspired with your creativity?

You are asking for love

And you get it

You asking for hate

But you don’t get it

Some say you make any day a beautiful day

But if you are feeling low and you feel nothing will make it better

You don’t have to feel bad

You are asking for love

And you get it

You are getting for hate

But you don’t get it

I don’t believe life is unfair

But I do believe you are unfair

I don’t mean to be nihilistic

But the problem is human nature

But human nature will always exists

You are my problem

And I am are your problem

But we need each other

It’s the chemicals between us

But we need them

You are asking for love

And you get it

You are asking for hate

But you don’t get it

Can’t fight this feeling

This headache is reeling

The Bible says no condemnation

For those in Christ

But this false shame is huge

My identity I sacrificed

For the sake of a pretend peace

Can’t fight this thought

I am so distraught

The Bible says God can give you a renewed mind

But my intellectual thoughts are heavy

My inner child I left behind

In the name of maturity

Show Yourself, Lord

I am weak

In You I am unique

You created for more than this

You shower me with Your love in this dark abyss

I am reminded of this line in a song

It says, “I have had it all, it all amounts to nothing without You”

Get me out of my shell to pursue the truth

Atoms cannot combine without a Maker

In all I do, I have to let You be my anchor

I remember times long ago like distant memories or dreams

Where I danced with abandonment in Your love

There was multi -faceted sky above me

As I walked down the path, I felt inexplicable glee

The devil wants us

We have to bandage up ours cuts

And walk into the open arms of our Daddy

He loves us more than life itself

His love is the sweetest of candy

Come into His everlasting arms now!

long queue

You feel like you lose
Having to wait in life’s long queues
Waiting is the hardest part
It’s like sour candy, so tart
When it melts in your mouth
It starts to sting
Reminding you how things went south

You ask, “What’s the point of waiting?”
Well, the answer is worth debating
Ever since you are born
You spirit is ripped and torn
You feel so fragile
Like a special porcelain dish
You wish life was more agile

I know you say, “Don’t give up or in”
But do you know the weight of my every sin?
I forgive others more readily than myself
Go on say, “Put your arrogance and vainity on the shelf”
But it’s more than that
It’s being patient in the hustle and bustle
While trying to love myself in my busy hat
